About Maison Mère

The Maison Mère is the international home of the Congregation of the Mission and the Vincentian Family. It has served the priests and brothers of the congregation founded by St. Vincent de Paul since 1817 and now is being readied to serve the more than 2 million members of the Vincentian Family.

This renovation aims to enable every member, individually and collectively, to better serve people living in poverty and feeling its effects most acutely.

About Congregation of the Mission

On January 25th, 1617, Vincent de Paul preached the first mission, which he noted as the beginning of the Congregation of the Mission. More than four hundred years later, Vincentian priests and brothers continue what he started in an effort to fulfill God’s call and St. Vincent’s vision.

The motto of the Congregation is: Evangelizare pauperibus misit me, that is, he has sent me to proclaim the Good News to the poor (Luke 4:18).

About the Renewal Project

The renovation of the Maison Mère aims to enable every member of the Vincentian Family to better serve people living in poverty who feel its effects most acutely. The Maison Mère is being renovated in stages. In addition to a fully accessible reception desk and lobby, a snazzy meeting room, and more than 76 guest rooms already renovated and in use, we are moving forward corridor by corridor.

When the renovation is complete, we will be able to welcome so many more pilgrims who want to come here to pray and study, rest, and renew themselves to better serve the mission of St. Vincent.

The next renovation phase includes several key milestones to be completed before April 2025.

400 years serving the poor

The priests and brothers of the Congregation of the Mission of St. Vincent de Paul and the entire Vincentian Family will celebrate the 400th anniversary of its foundation in 2025. They will participate in anniversary celebrations starting in 2024.

These events focus on revitalizing the Congregation’s missionary spirituality and its sydonal culture. Many of these celebrations will take place at the Congregation’s Maison Mère in Paris which is undergoing an extensive renovation in anticipation of this anniversary.
